Your Health is Important: Here at the Nadeau Educational Centers we are convinced that when you take an active role in your own health care, you will enjoy a better life. Your physical stamina and well being can be maintained and even increased. Here’s how... have a computerized nutritional analysis done! We are equipped to help you do this. By analysis of information you provide, a computer model will tell you what nutrients are missing in your body. This up-to-date information is available to help you make intelligent decisions about your own health.
Criticism and Children: Because children believe what their parents tell them, criticism that is personal, mean, and unreasonable will eventually destroy self-esteem. Instead of saying “you always lose things,” try “you forgot your jacket at school today.” Say “you didn’t clean your room,” instead of “You’re always such a mess.”
Kids’ Nightmares: Explain that bad dreams are like television channels; if you are scared you can change the channel. Most children will be able to teach themselves to do this once they understand how it works. This helps many children to sleep at night.
Help for a Developing Brain: A child’s nervous system - the brain, spinal cord, and nerve pathways - develop in a definite pattern from conception to about eight years of age. The rate of this development varies widely between children and is affected by the amount and quality of environmental stimulation they receive. This normal process of development may be slowed or stopped by injury, emotional problems, or learning disabilities. At the Nadeau Educational Centers, we measure the progress of nervous system development and identify any dysfunction by conducting a series of functional neurological tests which allow us to make an accurate evaluation of nervous system development. Therapy for delays or problems are then begun at the most basic levels. For example, neural pathways are stimulated using customized patterns of movement and exercises given to the patient to do daily at home. Through years of research and study, we have found many different ways to stimulate the brain to grow permanent new pathways using visual, auditory, tactile, mobility, and language-based therapies. Each of theses treatments are based on improving the neurological organization of brain functions. These combinations of treatments result in improvement of concentration and mental focus, development of speed and accuracy in matching activities, and can even repair injured pathways. The methods used in Nadeau Educational Centers can help preschool children, students of all ages, adults, and seniors.
Friends are Important: Having friends is not a luxury - friends are a necessity. We need friends to maintain our mental and physical well being. We need friends for accountability of our actions. Friends help us keep our feet on the ground and help us stay in touch with reality. But it is important to remember that personal and professional friendships don’t just happen, they must be cultivated.
Reading Basics: We have been helping children improve their reading for over 30 years. Here are some basic rules for children to help establish a positive feeling about reading. Buy a bed lamp so they can read before going to sleep. Play word games with your children. Encourage them to contribute lines to letters you write. A good family game is to act out the stories you read together, using different voices for different characters. Give books as gifts, it shows how important books are to you. Never punish children by forcing them to read or write for a set period of time. Always talk about how fun and interesting it is to read a book.
Children say funny things: Capture the funny things your children say and do in a notebook. Make this a daily practice. Several days may pass without you writing anything in the book. Then you may write several pages in one day. Share these “words of wisdom” with family members not living with you. After several months, bring the notebook out at home so you can all read it and laugh together.
Perfection takes time: My father often said, “Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly - over and over - until you get it right.” By learning something one step at a time, even if you make some mistakes, you’ll eventually master it. This way you’ll eliminate any fear of failure taking on the next new task. Remember, Thomas Edison failed more than 1,000 times before he finally developed the electric light bulb.
EEG Neuro-feedback - Teens LOVE IT: In the past we’ve had difficulty getting teens to do physical therapies at home. EEG Neuro-feedback has proven to be the answer to getting help for teenagers. They enjoy it because they play video games using their brain to make players move instead of using a joystick. This presents an interesting challenge. EEG Neuro-feedback was developed at UCLA’s medical center by Dr. Berry Sterman. Today, EEG Neuro-feedback is used to help children and teens correct problems such as oppositional defiance disorders, hyperactivity, poor concentration, memory problems and learning problems. EEG Neuro-feedback is fast and the results are permanent. Many teens have had their problems disappear in just a few weeks; others in just a few months.
